With a deep amber color and a nose of sweet fruit, honey, and vanilla this whisky is an absolute stunner. On the palate, it's a combination of toffee, oak, and cinnamon, with a long and warming finish. It's matured in two different types of oak casks, first in traditional whisky casks and then in sherry casks, giving it its unique flavor profile.
Unfortunately the price keeps rising on this little beauty. It's packed with flavour and is a wonderful dram. A great daily sipper.
The Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year Old is a classic Speyside single malt scotch whisky, known for its smooth, honeyed taste and rich, fruity aromas. Aged in traditional oak casks for 12 years, this whisky is then finished in sherry casks to add a subtle depth and complexity to its character. The result is a well-balanced whisky that's perfect for any occasion, whether you're sipping it neat or mixing it in a cocktail. With its smooth, approachable taste and beautiful amber color, The Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year Old is a must-try for any whisky lover.
Sweet and fruity aroma with notes of raisins, honey, vanilla and oak.
Smooth and rich with flavors of dried fruits, caramel, cinnamon and nutmeg. The sherry cask influence gives it a spicy and nutty character.
Long and warming finish with hints of vanilla, honey and oak, with a subtle lingering sweetness.
Overall, The Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year Old is a well-balanced and complex whisky that showcases the distillery's expertise in maturation. The combination of aging in both American oak ex-bourbon casks and European oak ex-sherry casks results in a unique flavor profile that is both smooth and rich. The aroma and flavors are well-integrated and offer a delightful drinking experience.
The Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year Old is a single malt Scotch whisky that undergoes a unique maturation process. The whisky is initially matured in traditional American oak barrels, which gives it a classic smoothness and vanilla notes. It is then transferred to European oak sherry casks, which impart rich spicy flavors and a deep amber color to the whisky. The whisky is left to mature for several months in these sherry casks, allowing it to take on the unique characteristics of the wood. Finally, the two different cask types are brought together, resulting in a beautifully balanced whisky with a rich complexity of flavors. The attention to detail and craftsmanship of The Balvenie distillery shines through in every sip of this exceptional whisky.
When it comes to serving The Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year Old, it's best to enjoy it neat or with a drop or two of water to bring out the rich and complex flavors. This single malt scotch whisky also pairs well with a variety of foods, including smoked salmon, charcuterie, and dark chocolate. For a more elevated experience, consider serving The Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year Old in a snifter or tulip-shaped glass to enhance the aroma and savor the unique taste of this award-winning whisky.

Owned by William Grant & Sons, the Balvenie distillery is a Speyside single malt Scotch whiskey distillery in Dufftown, Scotland. On December 19, 1839, William Grant was born in his father's Dufftown home. [Reference required] At age seven, he started herding cattle on a property near the upper Deveron River. [Reference required] He started out as a shoemaker's apprentice before working as a clerk and eventually becoming a bookkeeper at the Mortlach distillery in 1866. There, he was hired as a clerk and later promoted to manager while learning the craft of distillation. After working in the Mortlach distillery for almost twenty years, Grant decided to leave and purchase a field close to Balvenie Castle. He immediately began to design his distillery, and in the fall of 1886, the first stone was set. Grant worked for the business until his passing in 1923 at the age of 83. Early in 1892, construction of an 18th-century house (Balvenie New House) to be used as a distillery started. The Balvenie Distillery's first distillation happened on May 1, 1893, after the structure had been constructed for fifteen months. One of the most seasoned professionals in the field, David Stewart MBE, Balvenie's Malt Master, started his career with William Grant & Sons in 1962. The procedure by which whiskies are aged in one type of cask, such as ex-Bourbon barrels, then moved into a second type of cask (such as ex-Sherry, Port, or Rum barrels), resulting in a greater depth and complexity of the whisky's ultimate flavor, is possibly the one for which he is most well-known. On July 5, 2016, he earned an MBE from Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his contributions to the Scotch Whisky Industry.
