On the Kintyre Peninsula in western Scotland, there is a family-run single malt whiskey distillery called Springbank. It is owned by J & A Mitchell & Company, the same company that controls the Glengyle distillery, William Cadenheads, the oldest independent bottler, and a number of blended scotch brands. One of the remaining single malt whisky makers still operating in Campbeltown, which formerly had over thirty operational distilleries, is Springbank, which received its license in 1828.
