Pernod Ricard, the company that owns Jameson, has ceased all shipments of its worldwide brands to Russia and will discontinue sales of its complete portfolio there.
The business declared in a statement posted on the Pernod Ricard website on Friday (12 May) that it would no longer distribute its portfolio in Russia.
“This will take some months to complete. We are assessing how to adapt our local organisation in light of these decisions, while fully complying with all local legal regulations,” the statement read. Since the outbreak of the war our guiding principle has been the welfare of our teams wherever they are based, and we will continue to support our local employees during this process.” ~ Spokesperson for Pernod Ricard
Recently due to outrage in Sweden Pernod Ricard suspended exports of Absolut Vodka to Russia. However this did not extend to its full portfolio. This caused additional backlash and major boycotting from Pernod Ricards consumer base. Things came to a head at the World Distilled Spirits Conference in Edinburgh, Scotland where Scots and Ukrainians living in Edinburgh demonstrated outside the conference's evening "surprise event" at the National Museum of Scotland. They demanded that the spirits industry show its unwavering support for Ukraine and stop doing business with Pernod Ricard while it continued to export to Russia.
After the pressure has mounted it seems that Pernod Ricard has caved to public pressure and the boycott and has now finally suspended sales completely in Russia.
