In July 2021, The Macallan announced a partnership with the luxury automobile company Bently Motors with the goal to develop luxury products for both brands. Up until now, not much more was divulged about the partnership or the aforementioned luxury products. However, they have just unveiled the first prototype for the collaboration, a limited edition single malt whisky visualized by the two brands.
The whisky is called The Macallan Horizon. The Macallan Horizon is housed in one of the most unique and stunningly visual packaging ever seen in the whisky industry, and no less would be expected from a partnership with Bently. The bottle features a creative horizontal design, similar to the horizontal trajectory of a car. A custom glass decanter with no base can only be stored inside the fabulous case. In addition, the decanter twists 180 degrees from the base to its top. The case is based on The Macallans six pillars (The Macallan Estate, Curiously Small Spirit Stills, Exceptional Oak Casks, Sherry Wine Maturation, Natural Color, and Mastery) The Macallan describes the six pillars as:
“The Six Pillars are our foundation stones. They encompass the strong sense of people, place and passion at the heart of the Macallan. They support our experience of distilling and maturing the finest single malt whisky and our mastery of spirit and wood. Together, they underpin the renowned quality and rich character of our whisky.”
The Macallan Horizon is crafted from six upcycled, repurposed or ethically sourced materials.
- Recycled copper, mainly from the defunct Curiously Small Stills
- Aluminum recovered from the Bentley Motors manufacturing process
- Recycled wood
- Recyclable glass
- Carbon neutral leather, locally sourced and also used by Bently
- The final ingredient - the unique and custom made whisky inside
The majority of these materials have been sourced and produced locally in Scotland and the UK which is well aligned with both companies ambitious goals to be carbon neutral by 2030. More information on the Horizon whisky will not be available for another year, so stay tuned.
