The 1992 launch of the bourbon brand Basil Hayden's, which bears the name of Basil Hayden Sr. Hayden was a distiller who utilized more rye in his mash than some other bourbon producers did. Later, Raymond B. Hayden, Hayden's grandson, established a distillery in Nelson County with the moniker 'Old Grand-Dad' in his grandfather's honor. The label has a portrait of Basil Sr. One of the four items in Beam Industries' 'small batch' collection was 'Basil Hayden's.' The brand claims to employ a mash that is identical to Knob Creek, which was first used by Hayden in 1792.
