The whisky was produced by Berry Bros. & Rudd on March 23, 1923, and is said to have originated in The Glenrothes distillery in Scotland's Speyside area. The short shirt prominently described in Robert Burns' well-known song 'Tam o' Shanter,' 'cutty-sark,' inspired the name of the clipper ship Cutty Sark, which was built on the River Clyde. The Swedish artist Carl Georg August Wallin created the illustration of the clipper ship Cutty Sark that appears on the label of the whiskey bottles.
