Finnish distillery Kyrö has introduced its core whisky range, which encompasses four distinct expressions, all crafted from 100% Finnish rye. This quartet includes Kyrö Malt, Kyrö Wood Smoke, the newly launched Kyrö Oloroso, and the fresh addition of Kyrö Peat Smoke.
Miika Lipiäinen, co-founder of Kyrö Distillery, expressed his excitement about this significant milestone, saying, "Launching this core whisky range is a huge milestone for the brand. It’s been in the making since we launched Malt in 2020, so it’s surreal seeing it come to life. The core four were made to showcase the versatility of the rye grain and has allowed us to create something for everyone whilst introducing them to the Finnish rye whisky category. Our Malt Whisky, which launched in 2020, is so well loved within the whisky community already, and we’ve had strong interest in the Wood Smoke while it’s been on pre-sale, so we’re confident this full core range, including two exciting new varieties, will be received just as well by whisky lovers around the globe. Not only are they high-quality products that taste great, but they represent true Finnish culture through the ingredients and old traditional methods used; a message that’s important to us all at Kyrö."
Kyrö Malt, a key member of this core range, undergoes a double distillation process and matures in new American white oak casks for a minimum of three years. Bottled at 47.2% ABV, this expression is priced at £49.95 (US$62).
Kyrö Wood Smoke, another notable addition, is made using malt that has been subjected to 'alder-smoking,' an age-old northern tradition, within a century-old barn. Bottled at 47.2% ABV, this whisky will be available for £59.95 (US$75).
The core range also welcomes Kyrö Malt Oloroso, one of the new releases, crafted from 100% malted Finnish wholegrain rye. This exceptional whisky undergoes a triple cask finishing process, utilizing Spanish oloroso Sherry casks, new American oak, and ex-Bourbon barrels. At 47.2% ABV, this whisky is priced at an RRP of £54.95 (US$69).
Rounding off the core collection, Kyrö Peat Smoke is a creation born from Finnish freshwater peat. This unique process involves peat-smoking the full-grain rye in a bar for 24 hours. The whisky is then vatted, predominantly utilizing Kyrö Peat Smoke New American oak and ex-Bourbon barrels, before being bottled at 47.2% ABV. The recommended retail price for this expression is £59.95 (US$75).
