A classic single pot still whiskey finished in Quercus Garryana white oak casks that stretches the limits of Irish whiskey has been released by Irish Distillers brand Method and Madness.
The whiskey, described as a "world first" in its category, was aged for four to twelve months in barrels built from virgin Quercus Garryana, a kind of white oak indigenous to the Pacific Northwest.
The rough and thick wood qualities of Garryana Oak are unusual and distinctive, and they give whiskey a "unique richness, complexity, and spiciness."
The Garryana wood has a greater phenolic scent profile and more tannins, which add to a unique and specific palette of flavours. All of this gives the whiskey a special richness, depth, and spiciness.
