Former Master Distiller of The Lakes Distillery, Dhavall Gandhi, Unveils Kandoblanc Whisky, a Celebration of Duality and Craftsmanship
Dhavall Gandhi, renowned for his tenure as the master distiller at The Lakes Distillery, has introduced an exciting new whisky brand called Kandoblanc. Centered around the concept of duality, Kandoblanc is a tribute to the fusion of diverse ideas, cultures, and creative influences, embodied in meticulously crafted objects.
Gandhi elaborated, stating, "I have a deep appreciation for the art of duality and a profound passion for both art and whisky. At Kandoblanc, our mission is to create unique pieces of art, each one distinct and irreplicable. Each creation serves as a testament to the richness of cultural diversity and the impact of creative visionaries."
The inaugural offering from Kandoblanc, named Aga, will make its debut at the prestigious Distillers One of One auction, held in collaboration with Sotheby's in October.
Aga derives its name from Gandhi's son and bears the significance of 'mountain' in the ancient Indian Ayurvedic texts. This extraordinary whisky is a harmonious blend of two distinct and rare Scotch whiskies, meticulously selected by Gandhi.
Both whiskies, distilled in 1979, bring their unique qualities to the final blend. The first is a delicate and refined Speyside malt, chosen for its contribution to the liquid's finesse. The second is a flamboyant Highland malt, selected for its ability to infuse poise and texture, resulting in the ultimate cuvée. Together, these whiskies create a symphony of flavors that celebrate a harmonious interplay.
Aga is presented in a vessel that beautifully marries understated Japanese aesthetics with bold Italian craftsmanship, showcasing the Japanese art of kintsugi and the Italian technique of battuto glass.
Gandhi revealed that beyond the launch of Aga at the Distillers One of One auction on October 5th, Kandoblanc will continue to produce limited edition pieces and collaborate with artists and designers, offering rarity and exclusivity to whisky enthusiasts.
Aga represents Gandhi's debut as a creator overseeing every aspect of the product, from the composition of the liquid to the intricacies of the bespoke decanter. His career journey has been deeply influenced by his role as the whisky maker for The Macallan, where he gained recognition as one of the foremost experts in Sherry cask maturation.
Subsequently, at The Lakes Distillery, Gandhi solidified his position as an industry trailblazer, introducing innovative production techniques inspired by the world of wine and Cognac. Last year, he established a new creative studio with the aim of elevating the whisky industry's expectations.
