Compass Box has Introduced two new blended whiskies, Flaming Heart 2022 and Ultramarine.
Flaming Heart 2022
- Bottled at 48.9% ABV
- Not Chill-Filtered
- Natural Colour
- Lead Whiskymaker: James Saxon
This is the seventh edition of Flaming Heart. This whisky balances heavy peat and toasted French oak. The peat comes from a combination of malts from the Laphroaig, Caol Ila and Talisker distilleries, while the toasted French oak comes from a Highland Malt Blend that has spent more than five years in richly toasted virgin French oak custom casks. This edition has introduced a deep fruitiness to the arrangement and a booming spicy richness. Compass Box has even used bits and pieces from previous limited editions such as Peat Monster Arcana, Myths & Legends, and the 2018 edition of Flaming Heart, to imbue this whisky with powerful smoke and richness.
James Saxon, lead whisky maker says “Imagine Metallica with a backing orchestra, and you’re getting close. With the best bands, each album is an opportunity to explore and experiment; every record is an evolution from the one before. For fans of Flaming Heart, we always seek to evolve the ‘sound’”
Ultramarine
- Bottled at 51% ABV
- Not Chill-Filtered
- Natural Colour
- Lead Whiskymaker: James Saxon
This is the first release in the Extinct Blends Quartet. Aimed to be a flavour time machine. Blended whiskies of the 1970s, '80s and '90s are very different to today’s versions. The Extinct Blends Quartet reimagines four of the favourite blended Scotches from yesteryear, using some of the rarest and most idiosyncratic stocks of whisky available to the Compass Box, says Compass Box.
Ultramarine’s flavour profile is inspired from antique sherry and pipe tobacco and blended scotch from the 1980’s. This edition is composed of malts from the Caol Ila and Glendullan distilleries as well as aged grains from the Cameronbridge and Girvan distilleries.
Ultramarine retails for RRP £295, with a stock of 5,982 bottles available worldwide. Flaming Heart 2022 can be purchased for RRP £130, with only 9,606 bottles available worldwide.

A bit about Compass Box:
In 2000 John Glaser, an American living in London, was employed by a UK distiller and realized there was much left to discover in the world of Scotch whisky. So, he started Compass Box, an inventive company based on the lost model of the Scotch whisky blending house, but with a unique approach and a desire to create some delicious whisky. Compass Box’s whiskies have won tens of awards and they are not slowing down any time soon, as seen with their two new latest releases mentioned above.
