The first whiskey created in Wales since the 19th century to be sold commercially is produced by the Welsh distillery and brand Penderyn. Penderyn is a single malt whiskey made by the Penderyn Distillery (the Welsh Whisky Company) and is available in a variety of expressions, such as Madeira Finish, Peated, Sherrywood, and Portwood. The distillery also creates the Dragon line, which includes Celt, Legend, and Myth with Madeira finishes (Peated). The brand gets its name from the settlement of Penderyn in Rhondda Cynon Taf's Cynon Valley, where it is distilled. Welsh Whisky Firm was the name under which the company debuted in 2000. Wales had produced whisky for hundreds of years before it was abandoned in 1894. When sales of Penderyn began in 2004, it was the first whiskey to be produced in Wales in more than a century. Merlyn Cream Liqueur, Five Vodka, and Brecon Gin are among the non-whisky goods that the Penderyn Distillery also makes. The International Wines & Spirits Competition presented Brecon Gin with the title of 'Gold Best in Class' in 2011. The Brecon Beacons National Park is home to the Penderyn Distillery, which exports its products to countries including Taiwan, Australia, France, and the United States. [Reference required] In June 2008, the business established a visitors center under the leadership of Charles, the Prince of Wales at the time. More than 35,000 people now visit the tourist center each year. Plans for a new distillery in Llandudno were authorized in May 2020. On May 17, 2021, the Penderyn Llandudno Lloyd St Distillery, a replacement for the old Lloyd Street Distillery, opened on the site of the previous Llandudno Board School, subsequently known as Lloyd Street School.
