About The Brand: Glen Grant

In Rothes, Speyside, Glen Grant is a distillery that has been producing single malt Scotch whiskey since its founding in 1840. Glen Grant was previously owned by Chivas Brothers Ltd, a firm widely known for their Chivas Regal blended scotch whiskey. In December 2005, Campari Group acquired Glen Grant. It is the single malt Scotch whisky that sells the most in Italy. Brothers John and James Grant, who had previously operated as smugglers and illicit distillers, decided to get a license and established Glen Grant in 1840. All the essential components for making malt whisky were close at hand, with the River Spey at its feet, the sea and port of Garmouth nearby, and barley-growing plains nearby. The distillery was legitimate this time. The Glen Grant Distillery's founders passed away in 1872. James 'The Major' Grant, a young man who was born in 1847, had always shown an interest in the distillery. After inheriting the company and the title 'Glengrant' from his uncle John Grant, he was to establish himself as a deserving successor. Numerous tales exist regarding 'The Major.' He was a renowned inventor and traveler who established his own standards and lived by his own rules. He was not frightened to investigate ideas since they attracted him. He was the first individual to buy an automobile in the Highlands. The first distillery with electricity was Glen Grant. The malty flavor and bright color that now characterize Glen Grant whiskey were achieved by the tall stills and purifiers he introduced. The last Glengrant, Major Grant, passed away in 1931, leaving behind three daughters and one of the most renowned distilleries in the whole world. His grandson Douglas Mackessack was to succeed him. The Glenlivet Distillers Ltd. was formed in 1972 from the merger of the Glenlivet and Glen Grant Distilleries Ltd. with the blending companies Hill, Thomson and Co.Ltd. and Longmorn Distilleries Ltd. With two significant outside shareholders—the Japanese distilling business Suntory Ltd. and the brewing company Courage Ltd.—the original family involvement in the distilleries was preserved. When Pernod Ricard purchased Allied Domecq in 2006, Campari acquired Glen Grant, its sole whiskey. Glen Grant is still one of the most popular single malts in the world today. A tourism venture called Scotland's Malt Whisky Trail has seven active Speyside distilleries, including Glen Grant, a former distillery called Dallas Dhu that is now a museum, and the Speyside Cooperage. Visitors may have a tour of the distillery and warehouse, according to a BBC piece.
