For almost two decades now, Bruichladdich have shown the permanence of their commitment to barley provenance. Aided by the determination of their farming partners, this Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2013 is their eighth edition of unpeated, locally grown single malt. This 2013 edition was distilled from the 2012 harvest, raised across seven island farms by Hunter Jackson at Cruach, Andrew and Donald Jones at Coull, Mark French at Rockside, Ian McKerrell at Island, Alistair Torrance at Mulindry, Raymond Fletcher at Dunlossit and Raymond Stewart at Sunderland. Matured in a selection of first fill American oak casks (75%), and Ribera del Duero, Syrah and Pauillac wine casks (25%), the resulting malt has honeyed porridge and lemon meringue pie notes. Tasting notes: Colour – Apricot. Taste – The oak cradles the soft fruit of distillation with a perfect balance and harmony. The delicate sweetness and luscious texture are like velvet on the palate. The balance of those sweet ripe stoned fruit flavours with the vanilla, caramel and brown sugar notes of the oak is perfect, this vintage of Islay barley is bottled at just the right moment to capture the DNA of our island and the whisky we distil on its shores. Add a touch of water and watch as the natural oils react in the glass releasing wonderful floral notes of hawthorn and heather to add to the complexity and depth of this remarkable Ileach. Nose – This is stunning on the nose. The freshness and purity of the spirit is striking. A kaleidoscope of vibrant aromas pour from the glass, first, citrus and honey notes emerge before stoned fruit, dried apricot, and the perfume of ripe peaches. Sweet notes of marzipan, yellow flowers, vanilla pods, and then zephyrs of spice, cereal, and marine breeze. With time the oak notes elevate as the vanilla, Crème-Brulee, caramel and wood spices come to the fore. Then gentle hints of cinnamon and ginger cake and syrup add to the anticipation of tasting. Finish – The finish is a testament to the quality of distillation. As the expression of that marine tang with the sweet citrus and honeyed oaked notes tells the story of our whisky and where it comes from. Natural whisky with no chill filtration means you will experience as long and gentle a finish as you ever thought possible. Character – Taking your time to explore this dram will not leave you disappointed, the wonderful, complexity and honesty of this whisky is a joy to behold, its purity and freshness, its delicate oak sweetness and expression of fruit and gentle floral tones make it a vintage to remember. In fact, it may well be unforgettable.~ Master of Malt

Since Bruichladdich was revived in 2001, our goals have expanded beyond the straightforward concept of producing and distributing single malt scotch whiskey. Being an alternative to the industry standard was our aim. We set out to be trailblazers, agitators, and change agents. Reconnecting the land and the drink, reassessing the industry's established 'rules,' exploring the origins of flavor, and comprehending the significance of agricultural ecosystems. This trip would go on to motivate a large number of distillers and consumers throughout the globe. As we proceed down this route, we find that the more we know we need to accomplish, the more we know we need to learn. Our responsibilities to people and the environment are getting stronger today, ensuring that we utilize business as a force for good. We seek this greater goal and uphold our commitment to producing the most thought-provoking spirits we can with the help of our empowered staff. As Progressive Hebridean Distillers, we believe that our efforts will inspire the emergence of further enterprising start-ups on our island home and beyond, each of which will contribute depth and diversity and pave the road for a more vibrant and independent future. We aim to create the most all-natural, thought-provoking, intellectually interesting, and pleasant spirits at the Bruichladdich Distillery. Progressive Hebridean Distillers is who we are. Learn more about what sustainability means to us and our continual efforts to lessen the environmental effect of our business practices. We at Bruichladdich think terroir is important. That is, how the temperature, soil, and geography of a certain area impact the flavor of whiskey. At the Bruichladdich Distillery, a connection to the source material and to the local agricultural community is at the core of our philosophy. We turn to the inspirations for our love with barley after more than two decades of work. To produce whiskey with excellent flavor and authenticity, we go above and beyond. You should be aware of what you're drinking, therefore we want to enjoy that complexity with you. We achieved B Corp certification in 2020, making us one of the few distilleries in the world to do so. This certification recognizes our continued strategy and ethos in terms of balancing profit and purpose. In order to utilize our company as a force for good, it is our purpose to produce the most thought-provoking spirits we can while also deepening our commitment to people and the environment.
