Sheep Dip is a blended Scotch whisky that was first launched in 1974 by master blender Richard Paterson. It is a blend of 16 single malt whiskies, with a high proportion of Islay malt whisky, combined with Lowland and Speyside malts to create a smooth, well-balanced whisky with a hint of smokiness. The name "Sheep Dip" comes from the practice of farmers using barrels to dip their sheep to protect them from parasites, and the whisky's name is meant to convey the idea of "dipping" into the various single malts to create a blended whisky. The brand has since expanded its range to include other expressions, such as Sheep Dip Islay Blended Malt and Sheep Dip Amoroso Oloroso.
