The fourth instalment in the distillery's Barrel Select Release line of single-malt Highland Scotch whiskies, Glenmorangie Amontillado Finish, has been released, according to the company. Dr. Bill Lumsden has always been an admirer of Amontillado sherry and has always loved its nuttier, spicier flavour. Years ago, he started to dream of a special, wonderful whisky that would blend the particular flavours of its casks with the distillery's mellow, honeyed taste. Bushmills Distillery has added two new well aged whiskies to their core lineup. A 25 and 30 year old single malt are now the oldest offerings in the core offering. The Bushmills team is especially proud of these new whiskeys since the distillery is one of the few that genuinely has enough stock to regularly produce liquor this old as part of its main range. This release is called The Remembering and is the first whisky of the series titled The Masterclass Collection. Nc'nean announced the latest release of the 2023 Huntress series. The limited editions of this series are the result of unique whisky experiments, which the overall goal of said experiments is to find and explore new flavours. Distillery founder Annabell Thomas utilised special yeast cultures to craft the Nc'nean Huntress 2023 Woodland Candy. In contrast to the previous year's edition which employed three yeasts, including a unique rum yeast, the 2023 Woodland Candy distillate incorporated four yeasts for the first time, including red and white wine yeasts. On Thursday May 11th, Orkney-based distillery Highland Park, unveiled its new Cask Strength No.4 ahead of the distillery’s 225th Anniversary in September. This iteration is Highland Park in its truest form, it is not diluted nor chill-filtered. This No.4 release packs a punch at 64.3 percent ABV and provides a strong and flavorful taste. The majority of the blend is made up of first-fill sherry-seasoned European oak barrels, while the remaining ingredients are aged in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, first-fill sherry-seasoned American oak barrels, first-fill ex-port hogsheads, and a few refill barrels. A classic single pot still whiskey finished in Quercus Garryana white oak casks that stretches the limits of Irish whiskey has been released by Irish Distillers brand Method and Madness. The whiskey, described as a "world first" in its category, was aged for four to twelve months in barrels built from virgin Quercus Garryana, a kind of white oak indigenous to the Pacific Northwest. The rough and thick wood qualities of Garryana Oak are unusual and distinctive, and they give whiskey a "unique richness, complexity, and spiciness." Read more.
As part of a new yearly lineup, Lowland distillery Lochlea has launched its first cask-strength single malt. Lochlea Cask Strength Batch 1 by Lochlea Distillery, which is based in Ayrshire, is bottled directly from the barrel at an impressive 60.1% ABV. The spirit was matured in first-fill ex-Bourbon and oloroso Sherry barrels, which are reputed to perform especially well at higher proofs and "amplify" the fruit, nut, and cereal flavours of Lochlea's classic style.
